Thanks for the cordeline advice. As the new growth is all round the base of the trunk is it advisable to thin some of the shoots down or leave that until a later date?

I'd take out any you don't want as soon as possible and allow the ones you do want to take the plant's energy. A clump of a few or several trunks would look good, how many is up to you. :-)
