Has anybody any suggestions for a flowering climber, to be grown in a pot. It is to cover a 6ft fence panel, & needs to be cut right down in the Autumn. Scent would be an advantage.

For a few years I grew a clematis in an enormous container. I had to dig it into the veg. garden for the winter as our temperature goes down to -20C and then dig it out again in the spring.
Last winter you had it very cold in the UK so I don't know how it would fare in such temperatures. It would be wise to ask at a knowledgeable garden centre. You could insulate the container with styrofoam of something similar. I haven't found a clematis here which has a scent to it.
You would need to check carefully which variety you buy, some say, 'can be grown in container.' I grew Hagley Hybrid, it is a pale, rather washed out pink but pretty when not in full sun in our climate. Summer hot.
I have not had any experience growing any other vines in containers.
