I have some Alliun Globemaster bulbs to plant in pots... I have been told to mix horticultural grit into compost for good drainage...could I just use pea gravel or builders sand? thankyou.

You could use pea gravel but not as good as grit in a pot. I would not use builders sand it may well do them harm as same schools of thought say it has a high salt content.
