check for bugs, any folded leaves, any on the back of the leaves.

hi Djjj, I have this happening too (and to other plants) - I thought it was because of the extreme winds we've had thru most of june...

Wind damage, lack of water, too much sun... are the usual reasons.

It's wind damage here, Djjjpalm. Definitely not too much sun, or lack of water. :-(( Mine is the same - sort of 'frazzled'.

All possibilities, though - as MG said.

I usually have this problem every year but decided to move the two in large pots on to the patio, under overhanging trees, with a good result...no wind/sun damage this year...BUT the Acer dissectum purpureum has lost a lot of its dark colour...and has reverted to green over 50% of the leaves!

You just can't win! I've pulled it forward away from the trees...now the leaves are slightly frazzled on the ends! The dark colour is returning....so NOW I just need to decide which problem is preferable! :-))

I didn't realize acers could change from red to green leaves like this - like you say izzy...which problem??!!
'frazzled' not a good look..I think 50% green preferable!
:-)

All the red acers will revert to green if they are in too deep shade.

I can't move the 'frazzled' one. It's well-established in the soil. Since the winter when I lost some shrubs, it's more exposed, unfortunately. :-(

A gardener's lot, Spritz! I'm trying NOT to buy any tender/delicate plants this year!

I know I should have realised that fact, MG...but, the first time it happened, I was flummoxed! LOL....until the penny dropped!

No worries Izzy, the underside of the leaves on one of our red acers is green...
