My baby Cucumbers are covered in tiny sharp spikes.
although they are soft will they drop off as they mature?

it depends on the variety I think, courgettes have them on the leaf stems too

Usually the spines on the baby cukes become the warts as they mature. Rarely, plants grown from open pollinated seed have fruit that keep the spines.

Bit of a shock to the gardener, but not common. A bit more common in the Middle East, where some close cousins of the domesticated cucumber grow wild in the chaparral.

they wont drop off but when they mature and ready to pick you can rub them off quite easily.
