i have a bird of paradise plant that is 5 years old. this year i had 2 flower buds on it but they have shrivelled and died the rest of the plant looks healthy. what went wrong? i keep it in south facing conservatory.

I'd say that it got too hot - they bloom in the cooler months in their natural habitat. Wait until autumn, it could very well throw out another spike.
