is it a good idea to mulch vegetable beds with grass clippings?

I would dry them thoroughly first, though, so they didn't pack down.

As long as there are no weed seed heads in the clippings. Things like dandelion, plantain. The sort of flower that ducks when you mow, but is quite happy to lift it's head when it's full of seeds, coz it knows you're gonna put it elsewhere. :-)

I wouldnt unless you want clumps of grass and or weeds?

we regularly mulch the veggie beds with grass clippings. Unless you let the grass grow so long it has seed then there will not be any grass and you obviously want to avoid weed seed heads.

I put mine in the compost

You either have a small area of grass or a very large compost bin... Scott's grass produces enough to fill a compost bin in a month!
Maybe we should build some wooden bins and put at the very end of the garden...

I have 3 - 1 bin and 2 large crates but I hardly get to mow the grass as it grows so slowly in the dry SE. I am also not a lover of lawns I prefer 12 ft deep beds and my copse area.

I would put grass clippings on the compost heap, if they are around veg, just lying on the top and are quite thick, they can tend to attract moisture loving bugs like snails or slugs, who sit underneath and creep out at night to chew on the veg!

Yes unless the grass has been treated with weed killer.
