I have some petite pois plants (I confess purchased from B and Q!) Anyway slugs have found my new garden and having started eating the cabbages I am now concerned that they seem to have taken the tops off all the pea plants. As the plants are quite tall I am also wondering if this could have been birds. Finally, given that sweet peas are fine if encouraged to bush by taking out the shoot, does this apply to peas?

Hi, yes your peas will bush out, if you keep the slugs off them. Ifind slug pellets are the only effective treatment, or you could try some nemotodes for slugs & snails.
good luck, derekm
