Plants for planter

I have built a planter that is approx 20" x 20" x 20". I would like to plant in some trailing evergreens. I assume Ivy is the obvious option but want something that wont go completely wild. Any suggestions on what would be suitable? Kind Regards

Thanks Louise. I decided to get the trailing effect with seasonal plants and have planted a Virginia Creeper in the planter to go up the downpipe the planter is built around.

There are several varieties of ivy that are NOT the type that grow for miles !
Google or visit the garden centres or nurseries and look for the types that only reach up to 10' - likewise clematis, there are loads that only reach up to 10' now.
Your planter is a good size.
