If its on a tree or a wall cut the stems just above ground level and wait for it to die. then after some months you can just pull it off. If its on the ground you need to pull up the trails and then dig out the roots. We had so much at one house we found a wheelbarrow quite hidden underneath it! But pulling it out worked quite quickly. But a word of warning - if you take it to the tip don't leave it overnight in the car - it stinks and can take ages to get the car smelling sweet again!

There's no easy way I'm afraid. Our house was covered in ivy when we bought it about 15 months ago and the only way to do it is to pull it off best you can. It leaves horrid trailer marks behind that you'll be lucky if you ever get off. We chopped it down as far as we could, dug out the easier roots and the rest we put stump killer on to kill the darn stuff off. It's caused no end of damage and I'll never use ivy anywhere near a building now I know the problems it causes.
