I have a camellia sasanqua that has what looks like small black rather flat overlapping scales or patches that start on the undersides of the leaves but eventually seem to "bleed" through to to the top of the leaves. Then they die and drop off. What could it be and what can I use to get rid of it? There is no white fluffy stuff on it.

Could be a scale infestation of some kind - usually tea scale, which these shrubs are prone to, but although they're black, they usually also have fluffy white cottony stuff around them as well.
