That seedhead is only about 2 inches from the ground, BB - I took the pic from this angle to show it, looked like a bullrush head to me, lol!

It looks like a pencil picture that I once had, of a skunk cabbage.

Yes, but it will grow up on a longer stem and become larger as it matures, Bamboo.

thanks - I did look up skunk cabbage and its probably that, but none of the pics show the markings present on these leaves, so whether they've got some fancy variety of it I don't know.

Just the veins showing as you have a good closeup :-)

No, not the veins - if you look at the leaf to the left of the picture, there are darker green striations running the opposite way to the veins, which aren't a different colour from the leaf.
