Sad because Strawberries Disappeared. Yesterday, I found out that all strawberries which I was waiting to turn red disappeared. I thought maybe I was dreaming but upon investigation found out that they were all gone. My suspicion is a mouse or a blackbird. I have seen both nearby. I really feel like wiping out the mouse/ blackbird generation from this earth. Am I right in believing that it's mouse/ blackbird because can a small mouse really pluck a big strawberry and eat bit of it and throw away the remaining?
Is there anything I can do to get strawberries for this year and how to protect strawberries for the next year.

I grow mine in hanging baskets, then cover witha fine net when the fruits appear and have never had a poblem.

I have had this problem on my allotment even though I netted the whole row. I eventually found the stash of unripe strawberries and guess who was the culprit, rats. As suggested either grow in a hanging basket or give up!

I found that wildlife only tend to eat red strawberries. If you seem them start to turn red then you need to get out there and protect them then, not before.

My neighbor grows strawberries, and he puts each one in a baby food jar until it ripens. (We have the same mouse/flying rat problem)
