I am looking to grow something along my fence as a screen to the adjacent path. I had thought about virginia creeper or something similar but think it may be too tall. What other options are there?

Pyracantha can be trained to grow as a hedge. It is evergreen, has spines so is a deterrent to intruders and it has white flowers followed by red, orange or yellow berries. It will grow quickly to 6' or more. It will need support in the early stages. If you do not want spines cotoneaster will do a good job, evergreen and red berries.
