Can any one tell me what these flying things are? They have made casts all over my lawn. Afraid to mow incase they sting. Cheers folks. Thanks

That yellow insect looks like a Ground Bee, too fat for a wasp? Do you have sandy soil?

The beastie is the brown fly on the cast. it has a black front and yellow wings. About the size of a wasp but it dont make a sound. It is starting to creep me out because there must be about fourty casts all over the garden. Thanks taking a look.

My soil is pretty hard. A lot of clay about a foot down. Thanks again.

I had the lap-top in the garden earlier and couldn't see the picture too clearly. Not an ant but it could be a bee of somekind. It is not anything that I have seen before but I can undestand why you are upset if they are all over the grass.

I have taken more photos of them and they look like wasps of some kind. But digging wasps. is that possible

there are wasps that lay their eggs into catterpillars etc and then they take over the insect. they feed on them from the inside and when ready to hatch they emerge.
I do think it is a form of wasp but with out a 'brave soldier' taking another close up photo cant really help.

I can't see any beasies in the picture but the casts look like ant activity. Female ants do fly but I would have thought it a bit early in the year.
