my strawberries are throwing out a lot of runners,i am going to peg some down to get afew new plants .What advise for overwintering them size of pot etc.This is the first year for these strawberriesand although they were a goood size and very tasty there werent many is this the norm for the first year?

I would plant them out to overwinter. You should get more fruit on the mature ones next year. Strawberry plants soon pass their peak and are best replaced every three or four years. Many people grow them in rows, ie a row of mature fruiting ones, a row of one year olds that fruit a bit and a row of new runners.
