Can anyone identify this plant

The picture was taken in my back garden in May 2008. The plant stays close to the ground and sprawls a bit. There are numerous heads per plant like the one shown

If you Google Phuopsis stylosa then go on the Gardeners World choice the photo looks identical to yours!

The colour is a bit dark for the plant I am wondering about, which is Phuopsis stylosa. Mine is a slightly lighter pink, but the general shape is right. Is your plant a bit of a thug which spreads rapidly and dies back in the winter? Are the leaves aromatic?
