why must you take the outer shells from honey dew melon seeds before eating them raw or roasted?

The pumpkin seeds that you see in the snack aisle are a special kind bred for particularly thin and tender outer hulls. The ones that you get from the family Jack O'Lantern would need to be hulled before it would be completely safe to eat them. Honeydew seeds are the same way. The danger is the hard bits of the hull going through your digestive system. 999 of 1000 times you would just be a little scoured, but that 1000th time one could lodge in the appendix, and then look out!!
