moving an amelanchier

I have just moved my amelanchier obelisc (which is already in bud!)and now see that we are forcast snow and frost.It was only in its original place for a year. Have I moved it too early in the year,should I have waited till spring?It is in a more exposed site now.

Put a mulch of straw or compost over the root area, quite thickly. It should be OK as it's quite hardy, protect it from cold winds with shade netting or fleece.
