Delphiniums are another of those plants that are poisonous but not harmful. They are in HTA Category 'C' meaning they are least likely to cause harm.
Most of the literature is about poisoning of cattle in the USA where it grows wild. I know of only one, not fully reported, human case and that was a chap who had a pretty unpleasant 12 hours but made a full recovery.

Even so TPG would you want to eat it? Mind you would you want to eat most plants/shrubs etc...
It is time folk realised that unless you know a plant is okay to eat - don't eat it!

But that's the point, surely. Why would you even think about eating delphiniums? There's nothing to suggest it is going to be tasty. It's the look of a plant that first makes us think about eating it.
You are quite right, of course, that you shouldn't try anything you don't know is edible but I can't see too many people looking at larkspur and thinking 'I'd like to try that'.

Me neither but it is a strange world. I don't nibble on the leaves of anything unless I'm sure they are edible.

Yes all parts of delphinium are poisonous and may cause discomfort if eaten and the foliage can irritate the skin.
