This is only my 2nd year year of growing runner beans, last year had no problem, this year about half of my crop the beans pods are turning a reddish brown colour, any ideas why?

If you mean the whole pod is turning reddish brown, evenly, not sure what that is - if you mean the pods had dry brown areas which have now turned reddish brown, that's a different matter. More info required - is there anything present on the leaves? Photograph? Are the plants otherwise healthy and the beans inside fine?
