These seeds were planted my granddaughter this year. They came in a packet without any writing on it and we wondered what they were.
The stems are full of very small and fine prickles almost like a rose

Many thanks Beattie. Alicia's garden is underneath the Hazel or Cob nut tree so not a particularly sunny position - mean arn't i - but they seem to have done ok. Will have to try and take some seeds and get more next year. Prickly little devils though.

If you can't get seed from them they're readily available in all garden centres. If you can find a sunnier spot, plant just one in this sized area - given space they'll grow up to a metre and a half or more, and bush out too. I've had 27 flowering branches on one plant before!

They're Cleome, also known as spider flower. They like a sunny spot and I believe that these will be annuals, though there are some perennial species. Lovely :-)
