Please can you tell me what i am doing wrong with my clematis thats growing over my arch,because the leaves went brown and crispy very early and dropped off leaving the bottom of the plant with nothing,we had one lot of flowers in june then nothing until now, then a few more flowers apeared at the top.I am not sure if i am supposed to remove the curly ball left when petals fall off.

Drought's the most likely explanation, but it would be helpful if you could say which variety of clematis it is, and whether the ground where the roots are is exposed to sun all day.
