I want to cover an eight foot ugly wall with a climber which can be grown in a pot.

virginia creeper perhaps quite rapid,hardy and beautifull in autum. i guess you can grow anything in a pot as long as its a big enough one.all plants at garden centres including trees are in pots.

Honeysuckle is suitable for a shady wall but you will need to put up something for it to twine around. The other alternative is euonymus, which are evergreen shrubs, but which cling to a vertical surface in the same way as ivy (but not so tenaciously). Silver Queen and Emerald Gaiety are two good ones

you get some nice insects round honeysuckle and birds etc so probably the best thing

Which direction does your wall face - is it in sun, shade or half and half? And is it in a sheltered position or fully exposed? Sorry to ask all these questions but it will help members on here to give you a better answer
