There are small brown mushrooms in my potato pots,why are they there and will they harm the potatos?

Mushrooms usually feed on decaying vegetable matter - nature's way of helping the process of rotting down old wood. There was probably some incompletely rotted twiggy material in the compost and possibly some mushroom spores as well. It will have no effect on the potatoes.
