I get these all over my garden even in the pots, its a weed very easy to pull out. I have never looked them up as I always assumed they were a broad leafed Willow herb?

Forget the 'herb' bit, I think that it is a willow tree seedling. It would have a woody stem.

I agree with Bulba - no "herb", but a willow. Could be a goat willow, they seed everywhere. In late spring the fluffy seeds blow all over the place and collect in great drifts like cotton wool. Get them all out while the roots are still short.

Thank you all. I was bought a shrubby willow tree in a pot . I have repotted it so perhaps it has seeded into another pot. Thank you.

I seem to have these all over the garden at mo. think they were the seeds (like dandelion) that blew all over the place from a nearby field from a huge tree! I have been pulling them up daily! Not sure of specie though.
