Thanks for the advice everyone. Looks like there is no substitute for doing it properly! What a fantastic website this is and everyone so helpful. There is even a chance I shall become a 'proper' gardener with all this free advice on tap - isn't the web an amazing thing. Here's to the grubby hands and aching limbs of the future.

I'm with you on the aching limbs! I was pottering about in our front garden on Saturday afternoon, weeding and tidying - it's now Monday morning (a long work-day ahead) and my legs are killing me. I really should have learnt by now that gardening ALWAYS gives me achy legs! I look like I'm 150 years old when I walk.
You're right about this site - I stumbled upon it whilst trying to identify a friends house plant - now I am well and truly addicted (it's only 6.30am and I am already on the site looking for snippets and tips)! I gotta have my morning 'fix' before being installed at my desk for the day!

1. Don't do too much at once,
2. Have a nice hot bath afterwards!
