Prepare the ground, make sure you get a good tilth, at least 2 ins. of top soil, rake out stones and sow your seed when weather is mild.

Enrich the soil too with some John Innes No 2 and fine compost. Use a mixture that is recommended for shade, it usually says on the packet. try not to walk over the area too much, I replaced my shady bit with gravel eventually as it was always threadbare.
