my laurel bush develops brown tips on most of the leaves every winter, they disappear in the summer and it grows normally - any ideas what it is?

Or maybe even just wind burn in previous, mild years.

Hi Lhoyland,
I agree with both the above, or there is a possibility that it is marginal leaf scorch, the leaves that are damaged probably fall off in the summer which is normal with Laurel. I would suggest that you give them a dressing of sulphate of potash in March, about 2 ounces per bush broadcast at the base.
