can branches from laural trees be used for a chipped bark mulch

If they're freshly cut and chipped, I wouldn't - they steal the nitrogen from the soil which your plants need. Compost them instead and if they're still like chips next autumn, you can use them as a mulch then.

You can use them as path material, for a woodland path but I would not use them between plants.
