I want to grow a plant up our drain pipe that is on the front of my house, I don't want ivy but can you recommend a climber that's suitable?
Many thanks.

Are you happy that the drainpipe will bear the weight of any climbers? Be careful not to plant anything too vigorous!

You could try an evergreen Clematis - C. cirrhosa, which flowers in the winter and often produces a few flowers in summer. There are several - 'Freckles', 'Lansdowne Gem' and 'Wisley Cream'.

If you do this, wrap green netting round the pipe so that the Clem will climb up.

as spritzhenry says it could be a bit dodgy.if you could put a trellis like frame work either side for it to bearweight, but cover pipe,my house & garage walls are covered in clematis, wisteria,&jasmine.

Not recommended - as Charlie suggests, attach support to the wall either side of the pipe and grow your chosen climber up that - it should cover the drainpipe anyway. If you use clematis, you will need clematis mesh rather than trellis - trellis is suitable for twining climbers such as Akebia, Jasmine, and Trachelospermum. And remember to put the trellis up with the horizontal battens against the wall...
