Frost protection for outside plants. Cover or not to cover?
Last year I covered them up, when I took the covers off the leaves were brown and wilted. They have however recovered over the summer. So this year should I cover again during frost or not to cover? Is there any point? The plants in question are Palms & Yuccas. Cheers Paul

Yuccas are pretty hardy (so long as you're not trying to grow Y. elephantipes, the houseplant, outside) but the Cordyline isn't - you could chance not protecting the Yucca, but if we have another bad winter, the Cordyline will need protection.

Thankyou everyone, I'll put frost covers on them again, the frost should'nt last to long, I only covered them for a couple of weeks last year during the harsh frost. Like you say, brown leaves are better than a dead plant.

Never seen the point in 'being positive', Nosey - it appears to me to be a euphemism for walking round with blinkers on and then reacting badly when you're caught out. I know cos my apparently sunny dispositioned sister leads her life this way, meaning we all have to step in to bale her out all the time. Much better to have a good, clear look and then act accordingly, then I can be positive, cos I know I'm ready!

i agree to an extent but its still better to think of your glass half full than half empty bamboo x .

yes there is a point as instead of just brown leaves you have a dead plant and remember the last two winters have been the harshest for a long time .
