I found out last year... Just before it starts growing in the spring, dig it up and there should be individual bulbs, like a daffodil. If it has grown together, then cut it in half so each 2 or 3 bulbs get some roots. I had some both ways, and was less successful when I had to cut because they were really joined (you'll understand if you dig in and find it that way).
