Good Morning,

I have just ordered my spring bulbs.

This is my situation. We are in a rented house and moving next autumn, however will still love to have sping blooms :)

I will be planting all spring bulbs in pots, and then put the pot in the ground in the garden.
When is the best time to plant them? And can i put the pots in the ground immediately?

Thank you

Hi, Detta,
It depends on the type of bulb. Now, or as soon as they arrive would be good to plant most spring bulbs - tulips can be planted as late as November/December. If the pots are going into the ground, it is probably best to use terracotta ones rather than plastic, and be sure not to overcrowd them. Keep them cool. Good luck!

Yes, plant now and sink pots in the ground straight away.

Be sure to use pots big enough to plant them as deep as they need, too.

In Belgium I would not wait until November to plant tulips, the ground is likely to be frozen by then. As already advised plant the bulbs now in terracotta pots and sink into the earth. The pots can be buried an inch or so below their rim to help with bulb depth.

Thank you so much. I will start planting this weekend then. Do the pots need to be terracotta? i have loads of plastic but no terracotta ones

Much better to use terracotta, plastic ones will hold to much water. Or you could use plastic pond baskets.

How do I say thanks?
