My wife does nothing special and somehow is very successful each year.

She uses medium sized pots full of compost rather than seed trays, sprinkles the seeds on top, covers with a light layer of compost , leaves them outside and just lets them get on with it. Regular watering so they dont dry out, but that's about it !!
