i agree that it depends on what type and what you want to do with the bush/plant. Just remeber they are lovely for attracting butterflies and you can cut them back virtually any time of the year as they seem to come back with avengence!Can be used as hedging but you can lose the flowers cos you are constantly cutting to shape and size. depends on the species/variety. do you want them to merge? if you want to keep them separate then they will have to be about 6ft apart. a typical B davidii forms a good sized shrub 6ft wide 10-12ft tall.
