Like my solanum I guess Spring would be best to deal with the query below. I have, in large pots, a hydrangea and a small pink leaved jasmine. They have both got quite root bound but dont want even larger pots. I'm sure I saw Monty Don take a potbound plant out and cut back the roots and repot it. Would I be right?

Many thanks Bamboo. The roots are showing at the top of the pots. Suppose alternative is just to leave them and keep them well watered and fed. I could get a bigger pot but if I keep doing that they will end up enormous!!

Yes - but it can be risky and you might lose the plant. Do it in winter when the plant is completely dormant. I'm not at all sure how the hydrangea will respond, it might not like it at all - slightly less of a risk with the Jasmine.
