I saw this tree, which has remarkable bark and some of the members in our party said it was a Silver Birch, but I don't agree as it looked much too exotic. We didn't have time to ask at information, so as we have a bet on the answer, I would be delighted if one of you wonderful Goyers could let me know. Thanks in advence...

Would be useful to get a close up of the leaves but very possibly a Betula jacquemontii

could be betula jacquemontii,(a birch with very white bark) i think the one in the photo has been coppiced to encourage multi stems.
