Just had large raised vegetable box delivered. What can I grow as this time of year? Children waiting in anticipation for me to come up with goods!

Other than that not a lot... veggies grow when there is lots of light. We are dropping down into winter when little will grow. You could try winter radishes and see if you can buy winter/spring cabbage plant plugs. I my opinion much better to let the bed settle properly so there isn't to much air in and start growing next spring.

Thank you! Someone has suggested planting garlic - what do you think?

Yes you could try garlic, don't buy the ordinary supermarket stuff as it wont grow but if you buy the organic bulbs they will. Also where you live you can plant onion sets and broad bean and hardy peas to overwinter this will give you a good start in spring. It is too cold and wet with us to do that everything would just rot.
