I planted my amarylis bulbs from last winter in pots outside over summer. When do I bring them inside and how do I get them to flower again. Thanks

Welcome to Goy Rosieb66 If you copy and paste the link below it takes you to a site explaining the care and cycles of the Amaryllis. What Spritz has said above is correct for the uk so you may need to hang on to your bulb for another year before seeing more flowers. http://www.amaryllisbulb.net/How_to_Grow_Amaryllis.html

Oh dear, thanks for the advice, where do I keep them, I have a cold greenhouse and as heated conservatory. (central scotland)

I'd wrap the pots in bubblewrap and keep them in the greenhouse I think, unless you've got a garage maybe? That might be a little warmer.

Now I'm a bit confused. If they have green leaves on them now, i would bring them in to the coolest room you have in the house. Just keep them watered and if they flower they do and if not then after April follow the advice from Spritz ie allow the leaves to die back - don't water them. The leaves will feed the plant and then next autumn you can pot them up and hopefully you will get some flowers.

Woops, I'm confused too. They had green leaves on them when I planted them outside, which gradually died back over the summer, such as it was. The bulbs are now all large with health rooting systems. Think I'll take pot luck and bring them inside to a cool room. Dunno though if they need to be in the dark or need light.
Thanks again for the advice

It sounds to me as if they're ready to start again! :-)

If they are going to flower I find that the flower stalk appears before the leaves. They don't need to be in the dark. If they don't flower this year just keep feeding them, especially with a high potash feed to build them up for next year. Then let them dry off completely through the summer. Some people keep them in the pot but lay it on its side to keep the rain out.

Just pot them up and keep them indoors in the light. They have had that necessary resting period that Spritz described. We will look out for photos of them.

Good luck with them! :-)

with mine all i do is dry them off for 12 weeks then start watering again, as spritz says they do need a dormant period of 8-12 weeks first, then give a little water till you see flower/leaves then water as normal... but must keep frost free...

Cheers all, now I am optimistic! Another experiment! They will be nurtured in the wee cauld room in the light with last years poinsettia's given natural daylight and darkness, though given the last two winters here the whole house will be freezing! Last year they were spectacular, cheered me up so much over the long winter.
Thanks again

« I have tree lilies 8 months old what to do over winter, also dahlias
They really should have been dried off so that the leaves could have nourished the bulbs. They may not flower again this year without that period of dormancy if you've kept them going.
They're not hardy, so get them in before the first frosts hit. I think you may need to dry them out and then start watering and feeding again, which could be after Christmas now. The alternative is to keep them alive and kicking, fed and watered, and dry them off in the spring.
