I have a Blueberry in a pot of ericasous compost. I would like to plant it in the garden - so does it need acid-free compost?

Answers

No, the opposite, the plant likes acidic conditions.

It would need lime-free compost, over a fair-sized area (a meter across?). In chalky soil, a little soil sulphur might be a good investment, too.

You can get ericaceous John Innes compost which would be good if your soil isn't acid enough. You can get a simple pH tester from garden centres that has two prongs that you just stick into the soil and a metre reading shows you how acid or alkaline it is.

How do I say thanks?
