When is the best time to plant roses

I want to buy a couple of climbing roses but am not sure if it is a bit late in the year now and better to wait untill the spring

Bare root roses are usually sent out this month for planting out in November/December. They're cheaper bought bare root too - soak the roots in a bucket of water for 2 hours after they're delivered (assuming you order online) and then either heel into the ground if conditions aren't right, or plant out immediately into a prepared area. Can be done so long as the ground is not frozen - a bit of frost isn't an issue, its if the soil's actually frozen that's a problem, or waterlogged.
