At last! A question I can answer! Last year I gave a friend of mine, who has only a courtyard garden, a couple of courgette plants that I had left over. She got a massive crop by simply planting in large pots and feeding and watering regularly. The flowers look very decorative and they were very impressive with their fruit dangling over the edge!

My daughter grows potatoes in large pots. We get enough for several meals. there is still time to get some seed potato in, but no more than 3 to say a 16 inch pot.

I believe all veg will grow well in pots. Remember if you plant root veg you'll need a deep pot - like carrots and parsnips. Potatoes can also be grown in pots, peas, salad crops, tomatoes, herbs, anything really as long as the pot is big enough. Remember to put drainage holes in the bottom before you start or you'll end up with rotten plants if they sit in waterlogged compost. You must also remember to water regularly as pots tend to dry out quickly in the summer particularly if they're in the sun. We have had great success with pots.

runner beans grow very well in pots or grow bags, just remember they take alot of water,
they will need a support and look great trained over a door, the flowers are pretty,
it's the in thing to grow potatoes in a bag at the moment, you can get a good crop from a few potatoes but think about doing it soon
