My calathea houseplant seems to breeding flies. How do I get rid of the larvae?

I have the plant in an upstairs bedroom. No fruit bowl around, nor food of any kind.

Not fruit flies then...they hatch in water hundreds to a single drop.

I think they are bog flies Pimpernel, caused by the soil getting too wet.

Ah..so over watering. This is why I don't do House plants, so much to learn.

that would depend on the pest/fly.
I am going to take a wild guess that you have the plant either in the living room or kitchen near a fruit bowl?
