What is wrong with my Bay shrub

I have two Bay shrubs in pots. While one is very healthy, the other has developed brown spots on some leaves and completely brown on others. Also some leaves have been eaten.

Sounds like bay leaf suckers to me - google some images and see if it looks right. I have just pruned out the affected areas - you don't have much choice anyway they look so awful! - and new growth has come back fine.

Could be vine weevils, they only appear at night living in the soil during the day. Will eat both the roots and leaves of a plant.
