water lilies

My water lilies are coming up but have very light green to yellow leaves, they are about 8yrs old .Does anyone know what is wrong with them?

mine start off paler and darken down once they are at the surface and have started photosynthesising. are they behaving differently to previous years? could be due to the cold weather affecting their green pigment production.
some one might have a better answer for you.
