May 2010 I bought and planted a Pinus Wallichiana tree. It was approx 8ft tall. I live about 200 yards back from the beach and since May 2010 the tree has grown to about 11ft tall but the top 4ft has lost all its needles. Is it suitable for coastal conditions particularly a salt wind straight off the sea.

Could also be due to the wind itself. This pine does not like ecessive wind exposure.

Hi Drutter and welcome to GoY, unfortunately for you Pinus Wallichiana is not salt tolerant - doesn't even cope well with road salt spray. It will also end up a huge tree 20 metres plus in height.
