Hi
I have a green umbrella plant which I've had for 6 years or so, it was 3ft tall and the middle leafs were falling off not sure why? Its in quite a large pot as it had a growth spurt a year or so ago, it got knocked off a table and this has bruised the top half just below where the stem becomes 2 all the leafs have fallen off except the ones at the base, I have cut the bruised section off and put the very top bit in a glass of water there is about 8 leafs on it. Should i re pot it into a small pot or leave it as ut is?.
I hope the main plants survives as its the longest I've ever owned a plant or one that I feel like me, any advise would be great!

Look up Schefflera arboricola via Google if you don't know the proper name - that's one of the plants known as umbrella plant. Let us know beneath here what it is when you find out - if it is Schefflera, I can tell you what to do with it.... Either that or post a photograph

Hi Bamboo
Yes it's a Schefflera arboricola, not sure if the hawaiian type differs, I'll try upload a photo later.

I don't know what you mean by 'hawaiian' type. If its Schefflera arboricola, so long as the top part you have in water is over 6 inches long, and you've pulled off the bottom leaves, leave it in a bottle, if you've got one, full of water - it'll take about 6 weeks to produce roots, sometimes a bit longer. When it does, pot it up.
