Isn't there something about not using manure if you want to grow root crops?

Yup carrots and parsnips need a lean sandy soil, no muck :-)

Legumes (Beans, Runner Beans, Peas etc) and Cucurbitaceae (courgette, cucumber, Butternut Squash, Pumpkin etc) will like it. I would not grow carrots in the ground, only in troughs.

Brassicas and potatoes will be fine with too. Carrots and parsnips are fine in the ground so long as you don't manure first.

Don't plant/sow directly into the manure though, it is much too rich. It should be buried under a few inches of soil so that the roots have to go down to it.

Sound perfect to me - mix it into the veg patch now and it will be great for growing in spring.
