Thank you to all who commented on my question, but I don't think I made myself clear. I have a fence which goes down side of my garden, I don't want to put pots along the fence, but I want to put kind of a handmade long narrow trough type thing in front of it, say 3 inches in height, I have artificial topiary to put in it. I just wanted to know if there was anything out there, I could use to build the narrow trough, along the fence, with?? I was thinking about the high wooden logs, which I could paint black and place them in front of the fencing obviously tying together and fill it up with rubbish essentially and then some nice coloured white stones at the top, then place the artificial topiary along the top of it, do you see what I mean? I think that would look nice and make a boring old fence look nicer!

If it is what you want then go for it.

Not sure I understand your query fully, but how about some wide guttering to fit in the wooden trough, which you could plant your artificial topiary in? I am sure there is some 3" depth/width guttering you could screw into the wood frame. Try a plastics company in your area. Failing that, then fill the trough with a plastic liner. You may also find sleepers, bolted together, from a timber or reclammation yard, to be useful for the trough itself. For a 'rougher' look call your local tree surgeon and ask for long lengths of cordwood (ie thick branches) you can screw together to create the trough. Conifer is good for this. Let me know if this is helpful to you, or not!

Sounds like the best solution to me.
